Get More Out Of A Home Cleaning Service With These 4 Tips

Thinking about hiring a cleaner? It’s a great way to lift some of the tension from your life while achieving a spotless home. However, hiring a cleaner doesn’t automatically mean your home will be spotless. You need to take some commanding steps to get the most out of the cleaning service - and here are four to keep in mind:

Always make sure you declutter

Home cleaners are there to clean your home, not declutter it. If you don’t do this before they arrive, then one of two things will happen:

  • They’ll be unable to clean properly because stuff is in their way

  • They’ll charge you extra because they need to tidy away your mess

Neither option is desirable, so make sure you declutter before they arrive. Decluttering is an often-neglected task, but it makes the cleaning process easier for everyone involved. They’ll provide a more thorough clean at a more reasonable price.

Do a quick wipe-down beforehand

You might think this goes against the point of hiring a home cleaning company, but there’s logic to giving your home a quick wipe-down ahead of time. As explained by Karen's Green Cleaning, wiping or cleaning some of the easy-to-reach surfaces means they can spend more time giving your home a deep clean. They don’t have to waste most of their time in your house doing the easy cleaning tasks - like wiping your kitchen worktops - and can focus on the harder, more rigorous jobs.

So, while it seems pointless, giving your surfaces a quick wipe-down won’t take much time but will mean your cleaners can do a more thorough job overall.

Provide a clear checklist

Some people like their homes cleaned differently from others. More to the point, your house might have some key problem areas that another does not. Cleaners won’t know this and will usually follow their own cleaning routine/checklist - which they’ll do for all clients. It could leave you with less than desirable results, so be ready to provide a clear checklist when they arrive.

It sometimes feels like you’ve been overly bossy, but you’re paying them to clean your house, so they may as well do it properly. The checklist ensures they clean all the areas you want - and they actually probably prefer this because you can’t really complain. Give your cleaners some direction if you want the best results.

Request the same cleaners

Cleaning companies may employ dozens of people whom they send out to different jobs based on availability. If that’s the case for your cleaners, then make sure you request the same cleaning team each time. Even if it means you wait a bit longer between visits, a consistent team means you get people who know what they’re doing and what you want them to do.

You don’t want different cleaners every time because you have to go through the same spiel of telling them what to do/what not to do. Everything is better when the same people clean your home; they do it more efficiently and effectively.

Follow the four tips, and you’ll get the most out of a home cleaning service. Expect to see a cleaner home with less to complain about - and who knows, your regular business may result in a loyalty discount!
