PSA: Bigger Isn't Better When it Comes to Kitchens
Let's face it, every time we search Pinterest for dream kitchen inspo, we see giant open plan kitchens the size of entire apartments. Must be nice, right? What do us "normal" or dare we say it, tiny kitchen people do?
Bigger isn't always better, and a small kitchen actually has many pluses and can be just as beautiful as the ones on your Pinterest board. There are several things you can do to maximize your space and create an efficient, beautiful, and functional kitchen. Read along for some tips!
Invest in multi-purpose tools: Choose kitchen tools and appliances that can perform multiple functions. For example, a blender that also functions as a food processor or a slow cooker that can be used to make soups, stews, and casseroles. The best addition? Zline's 3-in-1 microwave, convection & baking oven.
Organize your pantry: Use light colored stackable containers and jars to store dry goods like pasta, rice, beans, and spices. Place pretty labels on each container to avoid confusion. This looks way less cluttered and more uniform, adding a sense of zen to your space as well.
Utilize alllll the space: Use a pull-out drawer or rack to store cleaning supplies and other small items under cabinets and sink. If you have space, a rolling cart frees up counter area and can be used for storage or as a mobile bar or serving station. Use vertical space, too! Install shelves, racks or hooks on walls, above cabinets or on the backsplash to store frequently used items and utensils.
Use only the essentials: Hang pots and pans from the ceiling or wall to free up cupboard space and provide easier access. Be realistic about what you will use frequently and throw out (or sell!) bulky cook wear that doesn't get used (sorry, InstaPot)
Choose a small dining set: If you have a small kitchen, choose a small dining set or a table that can be folded away when not in use. Or better yet, if you have a kitchen island, add a few bar stools and save yourself the table space all-together.
Don't over-decorate: Neutral-colored walls, natural wood or whites for counters, open shelving and simple backsplashes will give your small kitchen an airy feel. Add some natural greenery and let as much sunlight in as possible. If you don't have access to window or sunlight in your kitchen, a mirror will work great to open up the space as well. Regularly declutter and organize your kitchen to avoid unnecessary items taking up space.
Having a tiny kitchen may seem like a negative but with the above tips it can feel just as airy and luxurious as a larger space. And the biggest added bonus, it is super easy to clean!
